DRT Representation of Degrees of Belief
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper investigates the problems facing modelling agents’ beliefs in Discourse Representation Theory (DRT) and presents a viable solution in the form of a dialogue-based DRT representation of beliefs. Integrating modelling dialogue interaction into DRT allows modelling agents’ beliefs, intentions and mutual beliefs. Furthermore, it is one of the aims of the paper to account for the important notion of agents’ varying degrees of belief in differ-

Considering Uncertainty in Modeling Historical Knowledge
Simplifying and structuring qualitatively complex knowledge, quantifying it in a certain way to make it reusable and easily accessible are all aspects that are not new to historians. Computer science is currently approaching a solution to some of these problems, or at least making it easier to work with historical data. In this paper, we propose a historical knowledge representation model takin...
متن کاملDynamic Interpretations and Interpretation Structures
Dynamic semantics has its roots in the research of anaphoric reference. It is well known that in general anaphoric relations are highly context sensitive and defeasible. However, most standard frameworks of dynamic semantics, such as Discourse Representation Theory (DRT) and Dynamic Predicate Logic, do not deal with problems of interpretation revision 1 (cf. [6]). Furthermore, these frameworks ...
متن کاملHow has belief modality contributed to formal semantics?
Looking back the history of formal treatment of linguistics, we cannot disregard the contribution of possible world semantics. Intensional logic of Montague semantics, DRT (Discourse Representation Theory), mental space, and situation theory are closely related to or compared with the notion of possible world. All these theories have commonly clarified the structure of belief context or uncerta...
متن کاملPragmatic Discourse Representation Theory
This paper presents a pragmatic approach to Discourse Representation Theory (DRT) in an attempt to address the pragmatic limitations of DRT (Werth 1999; Simons 2003). To achieve a more pragmatic DRT model, this paper extends standard DRT framework to incorporate more pragmatic elements such as representing agents’ cognitive states and the complex process through which agents recognize utterance...
متن کاملQualitative versus Quantitative Notions of Speaker and Hearer Belief: Implementation and Theoretical Extensions
This paper investigates the notion of the Stalnakerean acceptance in relation to common ground, exploring alternative contexts where the Stalnakerean view of acceptance is insufficient (2002). Thus, this paper extends the Stalnakerean notion of acceptance through the introduction of qualitative as well as quantitative notions of beliefs into Discourse Representation Theory (DRT), corresponding ...
